It's been a busy week again...

...as I continue to play catch-up on my life.  Snatching moments in the studio is a delight, though.

I've been working sporadically on a journal page about the brain, given that John is experiencing deepening dementia.

There are so many types and fragmented areas to this disease that one can hardly imagine

how someone can go from capable in every area

to losing cognitive knowledge, words and essential abilities.

I suspect there will be several more layers on this spread as we go through the sped-up process of this disease .

Also in the works is a birthday painting for a grandson who is turning three in September.  I bet you can't guess what it might portray?  Let me know in your comments, please. 😉

Happy creative week to you - may your remaining summer be filled with light and joy!

  1. When I first saw the three photos on your post, I did not recognize it as your artwork but as I delve into the t explanation of ‘ Mapping the Brain’, I think it is a very good representation of the topic. Meaningful art can evoke strong feelings.

    1. It's unsurprising that you didn't recognize my art in this post, given that it's an ever-evolving chaotic spread. It's always a wait-and-see situation, and a huge learning curve for both of us.

  2. Hi Win, I feel for you it's difficult not knowing what the future might bring. You have to live every day as it comes. The journal pages say it all and the painting looks like Spiderman to me. I'm sending you gentle hugs, Angela xXx

    1. Thanks for your kind thoughts, Angela. Living every day (moment) as it comes is certainly the watchword around here these days. And aren't you a smart cookie about the Spiderman painting. 😜 Sending hugs...Win

  3. As always I adore the elements you find to use in your art. Your "Brain Mapping" is wonderful and as you know it is very meaningful to me. I have reached the point in life where there are holes in my memory, some days more then others. I guess we all find that very disconcerting as we worry if we too will descend into darkness. But onward and upward and bless you and John as you travel that road.
I wish you the best, and thank you for you wonderful friendship.
    Big hugs, Deann
P.S. Spiderman you cool Grandma you.

    1. Many thanks for your comment, Deann. I, too, worry about this stage of aging and forgetting and whether it will get too dark to handle. It's interesting to me that my word for the year is fearless, because, of course fear is what really underlies the worry. May we all find the road easier than what worried us about it!

And of course you're right about Spiderman - Owen is crazed right now about him, sending out webs everywhere. 🤣

Sending you major hugs, along with ever-youthful energy and much fun. xoxox

  4. Well, of course it's Spiderman, but is it Peter Parker or Miles Morales or maybe even Spidergwen?
So sorry to hear about John. I'm sure your project delving into the brain will help in processing what is going on even as you take each day as it comes and enjoy the best moments.
And are the wildfires near you? I remember waking to the smell of smoke in the air when we had bad fires about six years ago.
    Keep well, my friend.

    1. Time will tell about the Spiderman, right?

Thanks for your concern for John; we are managing, and learning about a disease that is truly hard to imagine. As you say, living with the best moments and taking it as it comes is the best way to go.

Re the fires, yes they are horrendous. The whole province is on fire. My brother and his wife near Penticton are on evaculation alert, as is my son's family (he's presently working in northern British Columbia) in Kelowna. My daughter and her family have a large fire near them in Castlegar. While there is no (large) fire near us presently, the smoke is a pall over the area, with the AQI yesterday at 11 for very high risk. This was true for most of the province. The province has declared a state of emergency, so all prayers gratefully received. xo
