...as I continue to play catch-up on my life. Snatching moments in the studio is a delight, though.
I've been working sporadically on a journal page about the brain, given that John is experiencing deepening dementia.
There are so many types and fragmented areas to this disease that one can hardly imagine
how someone can go from capable in every area
to losing cognitive knowledge, words and essential abilities.
I suspect there will be several more layers on this spread as we go through the sped-up process of this disease .
Also in the works is a birthday painting for a grandson who is turning three in September. I bet you can't guess what it might portray? Let me know in your comments, please. 😉
Happy creative week to you - may your remaining summer be filled with light and joy!
This painting was loosely based on a photo of our Opal, who was always to be found in places she was supposed to be staying away from.
She had an affinity for bugs of all kinds,
and pretty much ruled the roost - hence the crown.
And given that it's Valentine's Day today, you know there had to be hearts somewhere!
The card-making has been hot and heavy for the past while, and most of them were mailed late - how did that happen?!
I've been playing in the journal as well, and I'm wondering what ghost got into this spread - so not my usual colour palette!
This is much more like it! 😃
I'll leave you today with my take on the Valentine's Day - it's one size fits all, whether single, in a relationship or married. Happy Valentine's Day, my friends.
...and I'm so glad. I got back into the studio this week, and I'm loving it. While the results are not press-worthy, they were most definitely fun!
I started in the journal with a spread that was already near-completed on the right hand side, adding some crackle stamp on the left.
Some additions of paper scraps and a fun foam gear added some colour.
By the time I added some text and more scraps, things were looking up. The repetition of the text on the left with the tag in the pocket on the right seemed to tie it all together.
My studio is now looking more like home since I added paintings from my nearest and dearest to the walls, along with my own artwork, and installed some tables and chairs.
I'm excited about the thought of having friends/students in for some major play time.
And in spite of all that crazy purging I did, there seems to be a plethora of supplies with which to play...can't imagine how that happened! 😉
I'm hoping that in spite of the usual move-in kinks I'm back in the groove of regular creating again. Wish me luck, and tell me what you're up to in the comments below!
...and I'm happy to sit and catch my breath today.
The house has sold,
a condo has been purchased (it's about four blocks away, and exactly what we wanted - thanks, Carol!), and we can now prep for a move on May 22. All this in twelve days from listing!
Once the craziness died down, I was able to spend a moment or two in the studio to finish that page I started last week. I know I'm truly going nuts, because I'm likely the farthest thing from a hockey fan one could find, yet here is a (sort-of) hockey-themed page regardless. Somebody was obviously feeling very playful after the hiatus.
A second spread is curing under John's book (it seems to be the only one left in the house after all the purging and packing). At least, I hope it's curing, since it looked pretty ill when I covered it up!
And the tables in the studio are once again covered with a series of unfinished projects - how the heck did that happen so fast?
I did manage to finish a painting for the first time in ages, so I can tell the muse is back in working order.
