A studio visitor...

...this past week noticed this painting on paper and queried me about it.  I told him it was one of my Arcturus series, as yet untitled.

His questions made me realize just how many (and strange) pieces I've done over the years with this particular star in mind.

From alien landscapes

to alien portals

to a book sculpture called Expat from Arcturus,

I've done piece after piece.

The Expat Offspring, while somewhat different from its parent, reared its own head, even as

an infant.

It puzzles me why this star is such a draw for me,

and I wonder whether you have a recurring pull in your artwork that is as unfathomable as is this one.

Please comment below and let me know I'm not the only crazy one in the bunch!

  1. It's not crazy - many painters have made series. I think it's part of an artist's DNA to explore things from as many directions as possible. I find recurring themes in my journal pages just as I have recurring thoughts. The condition of the human heart is probably the most prominent one for me.

Hope you're having a fun summer. We are all melting here in the UK as the not-that-high temps combine with awful humidity. We're drinking water by the gallon!

    1. I do work in series with many themes, Tracy, but this one is definitely the most unusual of them. And your recurring theme around the human condition is what keeps me returning again and again to your blog...well, that and the awesome colour, of course!

  2. If you're crazy give me some. You are one of the most imaginative and creative people I call friend. I don't know about you but I feel blessed to have a tilted vision of life and the world. I know that people sometimes scratch there heads over our artwork. But nothing ever changes if you don't look at things differently and creatively.
I will get off my soap box now...lol and wish you wonderful weekend.
    Hugs, Deann

    1. You are so kind, my massively-creative friend, and I wouldn't have you any other way on all counts! And yes, I'm not the slightest bit worried about being crazy...for all I know, Arcturus is exactly like this. :D Sending huge hugs, my crazy-in-sync friend. xo

    1. I feel much better now, Angela, knowing that my artist friends are ALL on board with the beauty of being bonkers (and how's that for fun alliteration?). :D Here's to a little craziness all over the world - in a good way. xo

    1. Thanks, Mia, and I hope to continue to improve for the next 69 years as well. It's what all this practice is about, isn't it? :D

  6. Arturus is connected with you in some way, I'm sure.
And I don't think that this kind of connection make you crazy; or if it makes you crazy, it's for your creative accomplishment and for our great pleasure my friend!
(I fell in love with the first painting :)

    1. I agree, Sim - there is definitely something there on that star that calls to me! And I'm a little in love with that first one as well - I think it definitely came from some other place.
