Every artist knows...

,,,when a project is 'too much', yet most of us happily continue on, oblivious to the doubts that arise.

The Lunacy Dress is just such a project.  It's so far from done it's laughable, and yet....and yet... I can't stop.

With the skirt well-started, I already have a few favourite squares.  Some are already embroidered and some happily await the needle and floss.

As I look at the photos, I can see that I have a penchant for blotchiness - they rather remind me of galaxies in outer space.

I'm making an effort not to look at the list of yet-to-be-done tasks to bring this project to completion by May 6, because contrary to many artists, I don't work well under pressure.

And because women can't live on embroidery alone, I had a quick play with the gel plate and some leaves that dropped off a croton tree due to distress at a major transplant.  Amazing how some leaf printing can brighten a studio.

Now it's back to the stitching and hang that paint!  What are you up to this week - I'd love to hear in the comments below!

  1. Hi Win. I need to get back to some crafting but visiting parents, sorting their shopping, unpacking, dog bathing....I'm sure you get the picture, has prevented me from doing much and we are just about to go and do our own food shopping in the next half hour. On top of all that I'm going to a workshop on Saturday and need to get my craft bag ready. But I just had to pop by to see what you've been up to and I can see it's all coming along nicely. Loving the leaves too. So you have a great week, what's left of it and a lovely weekend. Big hugs to my crafty friend, Angela xXx

    1. Thanks, Laura - I'm such a colour pig that the placing (and making) of the painted dryer sheets is sheer pleasure, and I'm finding a great deal of pleasure in that embroidery - an unexpected bonus!

  5. You picked out all the squares that drew my eye in the original photo. No surprise there, right? :) And who knows what you can achieve if you don't just keep going? I have faith that your dress will be done and beautiful.

  6. Wow talk about a colour fix! Your dress will really wow us at the Trashion Show. I have put together a top of sorts using old t-shirts that I cut up for other projects that didn't work too well. Now, do I have the guts to model it?

  7. Well I am ecstatic of course, so many beautiful backgrounds so little time. I'm down here cheering you and your dress making on...it's going to be fabulous. I adore your leaf prints too!
This week I am getting my last two books and the illustrations organized on disc so they download in perfect order for the members of my family that want to run a copy. It's spring so you can find me at various sports games cheering for my grandchildren. Seven of them are involved in sports, that's a lot of cheering. Of coarse my beloved art challenges.
Keep those magic fingers moving Win, and have fun while you're at it. Hugs

    1. Glad to have you cheering me on, Deann - it's a race to the finish line!

Your family is very lucky to have you working so hard at your genealogical books; that is most definitely a labour of love.

How in heaven's name do you manage to attend and cheer on seven grandchildren at sports in the midst of all your other activities? What a trooper you are. Just seeing your artistic output looks like several full time jobs to me - you're a notable woman, my friend.

Happy weekend - may your joy in life increase by leaps and bounds!! xo

  9. Unbelievable... not just all this patches sewed together so well- even stitched --- AMAZING .. and this leaf prints look so vibrant and beautiful --- you inspire me to do some monoprinting soon again. Haven't done it for a long time as I have so many papers I wanted to use up before making new ones - but I think an artsy girl shoul allow herself a bit of extra playing from time to time!
Great that you don't set you under pressure. I am also not good when I am under pressure ... not in art and not in all other things of life. Pressure makes me just nervous.

Looking forward to the dress... I think it will be the most unique piece ever!

    Big hugs,
    Susi
