Wowza - that was fun....

On Saturday I joined Esme Gloster for her presentation of Metal Embossing, and it was a blast.  Was it because I couldn't tell the backside from the frontside, or the new techniques I learned, or the general playfulness of all those peeps?  Whatever it was, I'm looking forward to more.

Esme walked us through three processes to create (L to R) a debossed piece, an embossed piece and a high relief one.  These are each about 3 1/4" square.

My hours of tangled drawing came in handy for the debossed piece...I could do this kind of patterning for days.

The embossed leaf was fun to do; I purposely left it relatively simple in texture since I liked Esme's leaf design so much.
I love the high relief heart, and would definitely like to do more of this...filling the relief portion with wax is key to being able to mark-make on the top of the heart.

Of course my creativity time didn't stop there - I'm also working on a dryer sheet dress for the upcoming Trashion show, so my studio is draped in colour.

As I'm still at the tack-it-together-with-running-stitches stage, it's less than elegant, but I can see there is hope that I can complete it in the next six weeks.

My original intent was to make it a full length gown, but a try-on by a recent visitor made me realise I'd a long way to go!

Quite possibly it will be a 1950's house-dress style rather than a ball gown.  ☺️

And somewhere in the studio there are more completed journal pages and a gel print to two (well, maybe 20), so I'm feeling like my week has been wildly (in the best sense of the word) creative.  How about yours?

  1. Ooh, those metal embossed pieces are beautiful. They'd make great book covers.

You do like a challenge, don't you, Win? Enough fabric for a ballgown! Maybe the 50s dress is a better way to go. Either way, it will be rainbow stunning. Can't wait to see the finished article.

In this neck of the woods it's been knitting (I have a cardigan and a jumper on the go at the moment), cardmaking from prints of some drawings and journal pages, plus journalling of course.

    1. Tracy, I was thinking the same thing about the embossed pieces, and you know how much I love books. Whether they're created or altered, it would be lovely to see a metal cover!

And yes, apparently I do like a challenge; I started on the embroidery yesterday, and I can see that I'd better put in a whole lot of hours if it's going to be finished in time for the show in early May.

Your knitting sounds amazing (especially coming from someone who failed knitting as a child - can't imagine doing a cardigan at all!). I know your skill at drawing, journalling and pages, so I be watching for them on your blog.

Happy weekend, my oh-s0-creative British friend. xo

  2. Metall Enbossing is so beautiful - wow they looks so fabulous and wow - I love the dryer sheet collage sewing you have already made - this will end in a very exquisite dryer sheet dress - I am sure!
I would like to just have a simple T-Shirt blouse out of this fabric that I could wear to jeans or shorts everday in summer!

Happy rest of the week my freind!
    Big, big hugs

    1. I just loved taking Esme's class, Susi, and suspect I'll be doing some more of that embossing!

As for the dryer sheet sewing, that's going to be a project obsession for the next while, I can tell. And that's a great idea to make a t-shirt from it...another thing for the Muse to cogitate on in the background while I'm making my fingers bleed. :D

Happy weekend, my friend, and happy spring to go with that lovely spread of yours! xo

  3. Gosh you have had a busy week and some great results too. I am so looking forward to seeing the completed dress and pleased you are showing it along the way. The embossing is great. I've done some of this years ago and still have metal stuff boxed away somewhere maybe I should get it out again.... if I can find it! Have a great week, what's left of it and a lovely weekend too. I'm truly wishing I had a couple of extra months in between now and the first week of May - it's going to be a squish to get that dress done. :D

  6. Metal embossing is something I haven't tried yet and the Trashion show sounds really exciting! You can always just make a skirt out of those dryer sheets if you run out of time. What a super-creative idea! And I must say I love your blouse too!

  8. Your metal embossments are very handsome and beautifully wall worthy, they look like a lot of fun to make. Hooray for dryer sheet projects your beautiful dress will be my beautiful background. Fun, fun, fun as always.
Have you ever finished something and felt like "Okay now I can die." That's how I feel when I look at six volumes of family history. Not that I'm finished the research goes on but at least I have a fair representation of my children's ancestors that I will keep improving and adding to.
It has been a rewarding week for both of us my friend and you can't ask much more then that. Hugs.

    1. That metal play was great fun, Deann, and as for the dryer sheets....well, the colour and embroidery are definitely fun; we'll see about the rest! :D

I am sure that your six volumes of family history (!!!!!!) being completed must be the utmost feeling of satisfaction. I salute you - that is a prodigious accomplishment, and a huge legacy to leave for your children and theirs! Congratulations on a massive project 'completion', but don't even think about dying yet. Your Muse must have a ton more projects in the works for you.

Massive hugs, my friend, and happy weekend! xo
