I don't think so - how about using paraffin wax for a resist technique? You'll need a support, paint brush, paraffix wax (your emergency candle will work just fine) and some paint.
Draw a design on your support with the paraffin wax - if your support is white like mine, you'll find it a real trick to see what you're doing!
Paint over the whole support, and your waxed areas will resist the wash of paint.
You'll get some interesting texture where the paraffin has skipped over the support. Don't ask what the stripe on the bottom right hand side is - I've no idea how that got there.
If you iron your support on medium heat between two sheets of paper, the wax will melt onto the paper. You might need to do this two or three times in order to remove the bulk of the wax.
Once you've removed the wax, you can draw back into the design, and add another colour.
As always, layer upon layer will add depth and interest to your paintings.
