Computer fry bonus?

I got to spend more time in the studio while my computer was in the shop for a week.  That means I not only finished a book-in-progress, but the case for it, too.

'A World of Wonder' © Win Dinn 2022
 3 3/4" x 8 1/2" x 1 1/2"

Last year my word for the year was Wonder, and, and I kept notes throughout the year about the things I was 'in wonder' about, as well as things that I was wondering.  It was most illuminating, so a book had to ensue.

The accordion-style book has  ten mountain folds, to which I attached two pockets each.

Each pocket holds a 'wonder' or 'I'm wondering', or both,

and the front of each pocket holds the same.

My usual quietly nuanced colour holds throughout, of course.

Here's my favourite card at the top right...I just love sarcasm!

The fronts and backs of the cards are covered with snippets from my stash of papers oddments,

and it was great to utilize so many of them.

I just love the way those pockets sing out against that black accordion.

A close-up of the slipcase shows the black-gessoed Typar - it's such a great tool for bookmaking.

And now that I have my computer back, I can check in on what's going on in your creative world.  Here's to more colour and creative light.

Jumping from project....

...to project seems to be the way to keep my muse entertained, and I've certainly been doing that this past week.  I started creating the paper for my next star book

and it looks decidedly different from when I started on hot press watercolour paper with a flurry of stamping.

I finished a bookmark that had been sitting on my table for weeks and weeks and weeks.

I created a card with a skeleton leaf I found months ago.

And that got me back into the mode for Christmas card assembly (and a darn good thing, too, as it's creeping ever closer and there are many more to build).

I painted three wooden panels, and secured works on paper to them, one of which was presold.  Don't you love it when a sale spurs on projects that had been waiting in the wings?  I'd been avoiding doing this for two of them for at least two years because it's a tricky thing to retro-fit a paper work to a panel,  Cowardice wins every time.  😨

And I finally finished working on that large piece (well, two pieces actually) of Typar I started last month.

I suspect part of it will be perfect for a hinged binding I have in mind.

I have also started a 20 x 16" painting, which is at the really boring stage right now (that is much preferable to the ugly stage which is my least favourite part of painting 😖).  More on that next week - or month - depending on where the muse leads me!

Hope your week has been both productive and fun.  I look forward to hearing all about it.

That dragon book...

...finally got some finish work done on it.

While the bones were completed back in April, it languished on the shelf while I pored over and created other book structures.  That big button on the front of the 3" square book kept knocking at my brain, though, reminding me of a game we used to play as children.

The game involved hunting for a button, and the winner usually scored some type of candy, always a major plus in any child's life.

So I added some moveable cards to eight pages of the book using brads - only one card sported an additional button to find and admire.

When the cards are all pulled out of the book, they give the 'dragon' a most unusually scaly appearance, don't they?

It was no small feat to find/create papers that were suitably subdued in colour so they'd blend in with the soft blues, greens, buff and greys of the original book papers. Going into my paper stash for them was rather like listening for a whisper in a cacophony of screams.

Once I finished that little number, I taped some Typar house wrap to one of my tables and gessoed it.  This week I'll undoubtedly get splashing some colour on there in order to create some more fun for book covers.  I can hardly wait!

I hope you've been having a flaming dragon of fun this week as well - catch me up in the comments below, and be sure to tell me if you've played Button, Button!
