...and creating with new papers is always fun.
I'm in the midst of using some small part of those papers I showed you last week as I work my way through Catherine Rains' Collage Kickstart. Here were the rules (aka guidelines):
- Use three of your papers in each of six 3" x 3" mini collages
- Use a light, medium and dark in each collage
- Ensure papers are different sizes
- Create high-contrast
- Finish with a fourth paper of same-type molding paste on tissue
I created nine collages, all of which are yet to be completed with the tissue paper/molding paste layer (and that may morph into something different to tie them together given the labour intensive method of the tissue). I used 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" squares, and found it next to impossible to work with only three papers in those ones where the papers were somewhat humdrum.
At any rate, here are the not-yet-final works using Hansa Yellow, Pyrrol Red and Black:
And even though I've already created nine smallish ones, there's a stack of papers waiting to be used in the same colour theme.
I am, however, chomping at the bit to get to the cool colours, so these are likely going to have to wait a while.
In the meantime, have a great week and enjoy your creative play!
Win, I have to say I don't know where this is going??? But I will tune in next week to find out. The last one is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is going well for you. Our weather keeps bouncing back and forth sunny and really warm one day, snowing, raining and freezing the next. It has become a joke. Anyway have fun with your collages and keep warm. Hugs from here. Deann
I'm with you on the last one, Deann - it's my favourite too.
DeleteOur weather is the same here - I had to make a flying trip to Cranbook (an hour's+ drive) yesterday, and did so in a raging snowstorm. The way home was sunny and gorgeous. 🤷🏻♀️ Crazy, no? And definitely a joke!
Sending hugs, and huge appreciation for your blog posts, my friend!! xo
Hi Win, thanks for your lovely comments. I've had the stitches out this week and it looks to be healing well. I love Collage Kickstart it's a great way to get started with collage and I love the ideas for making papers too. It was CK that got me started making the collage grids. I love how you used your papers too. Sending hugs Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear your stitches are out!
DeleteAnd yes, I'm with you on Kickstart even after collaging for years - some new twists on old techniques have me intrigued!
I applaud you! 👏 Working that small would make me feel all tight and constricted, let alone within all those parameters. Your mini artworks are looking great with that palette - anything with a red is good for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracy - the parameters were definitely tight, but I've (mostly) followed them to see what had me going nuts. It's always good to push oneself out of the norm, isn't it?! And I'm really with you on the red!!!
DeleteWell, the specifications were a bit confining, but you got away with it, didn't you? It's good to get out of your comfort zone sometimes (I don't do that often enough, which is why I like to have constraints from time to time that push me to work differently). These exercises will give you more freedom later on, and I'm sure you'll continue to create beauty, have fun and blossom. Big kisses my friend.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a good exercise and now I'm doubly aware that working in a confined grid is never going to be a favouite thing. Know oneself! :D
DeleteSending flying hugs over the water to you, my friend! xo
