Did I need more paper?

Of course not, but when I spied a free class from Catherine Rains, I just had to try it.  Now I'm snowed under with sheets of papers, all in the palette of Pyrrol Red, Hansa Yellow, and black and white as directed in Collage Kickstart. As always, I'm amazed at the number of colours that can be obtained with a couple of tubes of paint plus  B/W.

The studio is chaos again as always, with drying paper everywhere and piles stacked up and near-teetering over.  This is only halfway through lesson three of five, so goodness knows how many sheets will be in the end count before the last lesson.  That will be one of creating collages from the stacks.

Of course, you know I'll be wanting to try it all again in a cool palette...I'm already salivating at the thought!

I also managed to remember my phone on an early morning walk to the gym...it only took three months!!  I caught a host of photos of shadows and reflections on a dark and rainy morning - here are two of my faves.

I'm looking forward to checking out your blogs this week.  It's always so inspiring.  In the meantime, please send help in the form of a front end loader to help move these paper piles, will you?

  1. What a luscious textural brown paper with just the yellow, red and black. Amazing!

  2. Hi Win, sometimes you just have to play for the sake of it. I saw the free class that Catherine Rains is doing and I have kept going back to it but other things have distracted my time, namely felting. I've always loved it but not done much for a while so I've joined a felting club. You may not need the papers yet but I'm sure you will do some time soon. Happy creative week, Angela xXx

    1. Regardless of whether I ever use all the papers I have (and the chances are slim and none!), the play is outstanding and so much fun. I'm loving seeing your felting, and look forward to a whole lot more as you make time for it - you are definitely the quintessential multi-media artist!!

  3. Win, I love your dances with black. I am a big fan of black for some reason. Maybe I came from the dark side...lol I love all your experimenting. There are some real beauties there. I especially like the gold and black it looks like real metal. And I love what you have done with the grey. You are my kind of photographer too. I love those shadows and reflections of light very lovely.
I hope you are starting to thaw out a little up there. Sending you all my best wishes and big hugs. Take care of you and don't forget your phone/camera.

    1. I'm such a fan of black and colour...the impact just makes me happy! And I'm with you on that gold/black combo! The grey is actually tissue paper, and when used the white molding paste on top will really shine when the tissue disappears into the background - hopefully. ;-)

I will really try for more dark photos - it was great fun to catch that streetlight in the 'middle of the night'!

We are a bit warmer now, and I expect that spring is thankfully on the way. Hope the same is true for you - sending warm thoughts for weather and for life! Big hugs...

  4. Hahaha! I love your chaos where all the sheets of paper are neatly lined up! What a girl you are!
And the examples you give us are each and every one very special, beautiful and inventive.
The wealth of creative possibilities contained in a few pigments from a limited palette...
You've done a great job, my friend!
I love your photo with the poetic shadows of the tree on the wall; it looks like a dream from which you only retain a few reminiscences when you wake up.
Keep creating chaos in your studio, it makes me happy!
    Lots of hugs

    1. I've done another 10-15 sheets since that shot, Sim...I must be mad! :D

How lovely to see that wall shadow photo as a dream sequence, and so true!

Sending hugs right back, my friend - I so enjoy seeing your fabulous creations every week, so you're making me happy too. xo

  5. So you'll be wallpapering the studio then... 🤣 It is just way too easy to get carried away with all the subtle colour differences and textures possible with a little play.

    1. I can see that wallpapering episode heading towards me like a runaway train, Tracy. 🤣 ' Getting carried away with paper' seems to be my extra-long middle name! Happy creative week, my friend!!
