I especially like the bit where they're learning to talk, and one of my favourite word scrambles came from Owen when he was around two years old as he attempted 'camoflage' for the first time. It's been niggling at me ever since - this study for a possible future painting arose from his spoonerism.

Study for Ineffective Camelflage 2025 5.5" x 7" |
Starting with an alcohol ink background (second photo below), I added some mark-making with Sharpie paint pens and then masked the camel off.
The finished study was a good reminder that alcohol ink backgrounds bleed, although if that's the effect you're looking for, it might not be such a bad thing. 😉
I also started some mark-making on the canvas 'palette paper' I used last week, and have some thoughts about where this might go as well.
And I just have to show you the sunshine we've had this week. It's most unusual for this valley in the winter, and a delightful treat!!
May your week be filled with sunshine and colour (bleedable or not 😄).
Win, I love your alcohol ink pictures I wish I could get my photoshop to do that. I just love the way the colors melt into one another. Your camel is adorable. And all the wonderful squiggles to celebrate sunshine make me happy.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been really weird too. Really cold, more sunny days, and no snow. Four inches of snow total all winter a half inch or less at a time, counts as no snow around here. Other places got snow. The mountains got plenty. Now watch we'll get buried in February...lol
Sending some of my sunshine your way. Warm wishes and big hugs from me.
Deann, I do wish we could play together with alcohol inks - we could create a fabulous ton of backgrounds for you! As always, feel free to use anything you find, and I'll try to remember to send you some from my next alchol play. ;-)
DeleteWe, too, have had next to no snow - until this morning. It's coming down in buckets and expected to last until Saturday even, at which point we'll have to get the flags out on the roof to find us! Happy winter, and yes - let's share that glorious sunshine (and a bit more snow to add that crystal clear white beauty to our surroundings)! Massive hugs to you, my winterless friend. 💗
I don't have any grandkids myself, but small children are definitely a joy with their words. 'Camelflage' is a great one, and you've illustrated it beautifully. I think the bleed through gives a lovely pattern, like the ghost prints on gel plates. Our Zach always loved 'achy pots' (apricots) and apparently I used 'maflingoes' for those brilliantly pink birds.
ReplyDeleteOh, achy pots is marvelous - that's just a painting waiting to happen for you! :D And oh I love maflingoes - there's such a sense of possession there for that delightful bird! Thanks for brightening my day! xo
DeleteHi Win, I am picking up now but this cold has tired me out. I've managed some crafting as you know but nothing where I've had to stand for long or think much as I kept feeling tired. You are lucky to have such lovely grandchildren and they are even more lucky to have you. Love your play time with the alcohol inks and look forward to seeing the canvas develop too. Have a good weekend. Hugs Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteI'm just so glad you're starting to feel better, Angela! Nothing like a January cold to start the year off, right? You'll be back at it like a banshee just as soon as you recover some energy, I know! xo
DeleteI'm always very happy to come and visit you, always new inventions, beautiful shimmering colours and extreme energy!
ReplyDeleteWhat was that lovely phrase Owen said? The one that put you on the trail of a camel...
We've got beautiful blue skies here too, it's great.
I look forward to coming back now that my computer's fixed ( phew :).
Lots of kisses in the meantime.
Owen was attempting to say camoflage, and came out with camelflage instead, bless his heart. That led me to thinking of the antithesis of camoflage, so the Ineffective Camelflage was born. :D
DeleteGlad to know your computer if fixed and you're operable again....sending some camelflage hugs to you over the waves.
