- taking a class in January, that is. This year it's Tracy Verdugo with her Jump Into Abstract Painting class, and it's already a good deal of fun.
I'm a hit and miss learner, so I watched all the videos and then cherry-picked some things. I really liked the colour and line segment and went to town on it with paint brushes, gel pens, coloured pencils and every other thing in the studio that made marks.
It was most interesting to deliberately go against my own grain, making marks and using colours that were not particularly appealing, and I found some interesting bits to show you. I'm loving the hot pink against the lime here.
This segment looks really fun in a vertical format,
and I noticed how much I preferred it to the horizontal.
These candles pleased me, but what's with those black flames????
Apparently I have a thing for making waves.
These flower pots with fledgling plants really speak to me, especially with those tangled roots below.
And of course you knew there'd be hearts somewhere in the mix.
I'll really enjoy the next part of the videos, I'm sure, and will keep you posted.
Hi Winy. This is happy art! As soon as I looked at it I was full of smiles. January always feels like a slow time for me which is why I tend to make it my reviewing month and of course we would normally be on holiday for a couple of weeks in January which as you can imagine has not happened again. I think I need to brighten things up a bit but I'm enjoying watching what you're up to so thanks for that. Take care and keep crafting. Hugs, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteIt was great fun to play with all those 'things' Angela. I'll bet you're missing your ski holiday, and suspect you'd have a blast playing with this technique! 😁
DeleteLoving all those lovely marks and lines, Win. It's always fun to be pushed to do something different and pick out those things you wouldn't usually go for. Who doesn't love hot pink and lime?!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago now I did a journal 'in the style of' where each page was in the style of a different artist - using their marks and palettes and doing things I wouldn't usually do. I found it fun and it pushed me into new areas where I discovered new things.
It is fun, isn't it? I normally do Creative Jumpstart in January, and thought I'd try something different. I can see that I'll be really pushed with this one! That 'in the style of' class must have been a great one...you always come up with fabulous journal pages!
DeleteWin, I'm glad to see you are not sitting around on your laurels up there...lol.
ReplyDeleteFrom top to bottom, I love contrasting colors together like your pink and lime they liven up the place. Horizontal lines are more comfortable I think because that's what we are used to out in the world, unless you live in New York City in which case you probably prefer vertical. I prefer the wild squiggly lines to the X's & Z's, because they follow my mental pattern. And hearts for sure we gotta have hearts. You have created some lovely abstract art brilliant and beautiful.
Wishing you a wonderful art filled week and much joy in the process. Hugs
I do admit to be somewhat of a slow started this past week, and felt like this was a good push for me. Hopefully the life chaos won't prevent me from continuing to learn in this class.
DeleteI find myself liking vertical formats even though we live in a small town where the highest building is maxed at about 3 stories. Giggling over you liking the squiggly lines because it's a match for your mental pattern...that should follow through for me as well, I'd say. Happy week, my friend...xoxo
The details are absolutely fabulous Win!
ReplyDeleteYou must really have fun! And it shows!
Black flames are hearts too, so no worries; as long as there is love, all colors are suitable, right?
Your determination to create and always seek further are admirable and make you a rare person; a girl who always pushes her limits. Congratulations from the bottom of my heart my friend!
Thanks, Sim...I do love to play and push myself out of the norm, black hearts included. 😃 So appreciate your comments and laudatory encouragement...many thanks for stopping by to visit and salute!
DeleteLooks like you had fun ! It looks fun too. Well done! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDefinitely did, Corrie - the trick now will be to use what I learned. 😉
DeleteThe middle one at the top is my favorite. The slightly organic lines with the structured lines really appeals to me. They would ALL look good as textile!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eileen, and now you've got me thinking about doing a new paint shirt! Another project rolling around in my brain....😄
DeleteLove your abstracts, Win, your way! Such happy repeating patterns. I'd love to be able to paint like Tracey - she makes it look so easy! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Zsuzsa, and I'm so in agreement with you about Tracy's work. AND I'm in love with her colours - every time!
