. . . I get a crazy idea. When I do, I usually try it. That was what happened this week when I was making cover paper for the Head Shots book in progress. I love making painted paper, and when I wondered what would happen if I threw a stencil on the paper and then let it dry, I just had to try it.
I particularly liked a couple of the closeup shots on the second one.
I just know I'm going to have to try it on every possible combination of colour and stencil, so you know my next few weeks are going to be fun!
While I've not yet made a mini book from the painted papers, I do have a lot of them on the go.
And now that the cover papers for Head Shots are in creation, I'm hoping to finish that book in the next week or so. I've made the painted paper for the inside covers
and decorative edging, Eileen has supplied me with matboard to create the covers, bless her, and John has chopped them for me. Progress is being made!
How's your progress been this week? I hope that you're on a massive roll with your creative life...

What a great discovery this semi-stencil effect, dear friend. Forward the adventure! : D
ReplyDeleteAll of these mini books make you want to take a closer look, and I can't wait to see the 'Head Shots'!
For my part, no massive roll with my creative life, my muses are regularly on vacation ...
All my best regards Win.
Hugs.
You so make me smile with your muses being on vacation, especially given your fabulous creations recently! I always look forward to seeing what you have on the go. . .
DeleteHere's to happy accidents, muses however they show up, and infinite creativity. Stay safe, my friend, and happy making!
Watching you play with this technique reminds me of why I enjoy making my Masterboards so much. The fun of playing with the techniques and mediums with no thought of how it will end or what it will be used for that's what I enjoy the most. If I happen to find a use for any of them that's just an added bonus and I'm loving your mini books which are a great idea. Take care and have a lovely creative week, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteThat is truly my favorite part of creating, Angela. Between playing with colour and experimenting with crazy ideas, I am truly a happy camper in my studio. No mistakes - just opportunities to learn how to do something new and fun!
DeleteWin my friend innovation is thy name... I've said before and I will say it in the future...BRAVO you are amazing!
ReplyDeleteFor my hubby and I, this year has been one long round of trying to get appointments for shots and finally shots (yay!) Doctor, eye doctor and dental visits and other medical abuse...lol. Nothing serious just the normal old age break down you know annoying stuff.
So if I seem grumpy and I don't stop by once in awhile you'll know why. The Good news is "I Can Hug My Grandkids...yay!!"
I love your books and can't wait until they are finished to see what you have come up with.
Carry on, and take good care of you. Big Hugs, Deann
Many thanks, Deann! I just love playing in the studio (when not beset by the Covid blues!). And I'm totally engrossed in books right now, so warning - there will be more. :D
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that your and your hubby are having such a challenging time, and made more so by this crazy pandemic, I know. John just got our appointments for the shot for April 9, although they ran out of vaccine here in town. We'll go to Trail, an hour and a half away, which will give us an opportunity to visit our daughter & fam there. Grandchild, YAY!
Take care of yourself, love to grandkids to the max, and stay safe, my friend!
I enjoyed the video for the painted paper, Win. I love your idea to throw a stencil on the painted paper before it dries. It seems very interest technique and be sure that I will try it. Maybe I will use it with my Gelli plate, I'll see. Great mini books too, my friend. Kisses!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the video, Mia - it's a technique that I've enjoyed using over and over! I'll look forward to seeing your creations with it! xo
DeleteLooks amazing WIn! I can see you are going to have a lot of fun! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a discovery. I wonder if the technique would work with watercolour?
ReplyDeleteSo many possibilities of where this idea will take you. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
I'll bet it would, Eileen, and I think it would open some interesting possibilities there, too! Here's to experimentation!
DeleteI love that effect! A must-try for sure! Part of the fun (well, most of the fun!) in what we do is in the experiments - just makes my heart beat faster! Wishing you a lovely weekend - and thanks so much for your visit, Win - your comments always put a smile on my face! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Zsuzsa...just love the sense of playing and experimenting in the studio. Happy weekend, my far-flung friend! xo
DeleteLove that little flock of books, Win. So colourful. I'm sure you'll fill them with lovely thoughts and images. And what a great whim to leave a stencil on drying paper - wonderful results.
ReplyDelete(My previous comment seems to have disappeared so I'm giving it a second go!)
Thanks, Tracy; I'm looking forward to getting to these! The stencil thing has many possibilities, too. I can see a lot of studio time coming up! Thanks for sending another comment - love Blogger disappearing things on us. :D
DeleteThanks, Tracy - with all these books on the go my head is just bouncing with ideas! And thanks for trying again with your comment...Blogger has really been playing sillyman lately, and I'm fast running out of patience!
