Those negative spaces are filled with light
or growth
and often all three.
I think our time of social distancing/isolation/quarantine will be the same. I'm hopeful that when we look back on this (as I'm sure we will), we'll see how this opportunity for growth created a massive worldwide upsurge in kindness, tolerance, compassion, and love for all living things on the planet.
This article by the Dalai Lama speaks to the challenges and the possibilities in this space between. And Elizabeth Gilbert tells an amazing story in 'this is who you are and this is where you live'.
I hope you're exploring and finding new things about yourself and others in the world we're experiencing...I'd love to hear your comments below.
Interesting ideas to chew on, Win. Yes, let's grow in kindness, tolerance, compassion, and love, because you can never have enough of those things.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments on my blog - you are always such an encouragement. Did you recognise the 'medallion'? It's punched from a piece of embossed wallpaper that you kindly sent me a while ago. I'd used some up and there was just enough left to punch out the circle.
Oh that medallion thing makes me laugh, and no, I didn't recognize it. Beauty. :D Now I'll have to get some of my wallpaper out again.
DeleteHi Win Dinny. The negative spaces are such a great starting point for design and your photographs reminded me of a project we did when I was at college and I still have some of my old sketchbooks which reappeared when I was sorting the stuff to go in the new cabin, maybe they could be useful again. It was interesting that you mentioned the upsurge of kindness. I don't know if you have heard about Captain Tom. He decided that for his 100th birthday he would walk around his house ten times a day until he had done it one hundred times and start an appeal to collect one thousand pounds for the NHS. That was six days ago and as of yesterday people have given the appeal £13 million! it's amazing. Take care my friend and happy creative week, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteI did read about Captain Tom, although it was a few days ago when he had raised £4 million...how wonderful to hear it's up to £13 million. There are so many good things coming out of this pandemic that it's beyond heartening. xo
DeleteIt's Captain Tom's birthday today and the news reported this morning that he has raised £30 million, amazing! Thanks for all your lovely comments over at mine, your a great friend. Hugs, Angela xXx
DeleteThat's just such a huge number that it's hard to fathom! It's such an amazing world when one considers how one man can inspire millions of people to something that generous! xo
DeleteAbstract, concret... Your pics are just perfect for seeing the invisible, feeling the subjective... (I'm sorry for my broken english).
ReplyDeleteMost of us relearn how to live together in the same home, and finally do whatever he wanted to do without ever having time.
And we all learn humility I guess. I do.
I wish you and yours a lot of serene life in this long strange hard time.
Sim that is so true about learning to live together in isolation, and relearning about living. May it go easily for you and yours as we move toward the new normal. Hugs, Win
DeleteFirst I want to say thanks again for the great picture of Mona I forgot to tell you how much fun it has been watching the hair melt down on all the perfectly coiffed news women and movie stars. Since I have graying shoulder length hair that I don't color I can go on forever and will look about the same...old.
ReplyDeleteI love your space between it is what makes art really, your photos are beautiful and so are your words you are so right about the increase in love I have noticed it too, I pray we can hang on to it when this passes.
Take care of you. love & hugs(don't tell)
Deann
You are most welcome for the Mona picture (for those of you reading the comments, this was sent via email). To see the Mona Lisa with her greyed roots cracked me right up. Mine too has been (and shall remain forevermore) grey since I hit my forties.
DeleteLike you, Deann, I am praying we can hang on to the loving kindness for generations past the virus. Sending love and hugs right back (keeping mum, my friend)...Win
