Journal sanity...

...is a big thing in my world, and I am most appreciative of my husband, John, who is always so good about aiding and abetting me in this passion.  He carefully removes labels from wine bottles, saves any interesting looking caps he finds, picks up oddments when he's out and about, and generally is an oh-so-good man.  This spread is for him.

I turn to journals when the muse is absent (more wine labels here, I see ;0),

when I'm using paper scraps and cards,

when I'm stamping off during a project,

and when I've just gone crazy with pattern and can't seem to stop.

The funny thing is I've been working in this particular journal for the last eighteen months, and I'm amazed to find, after carefully counting, that there are still SEVENTY spreads left to complete.  How can that be possible?  Quantum physics tells us there is a field out there of multiple choices and worlds, and I suspect that somehow there are pages migrating into this journal from those other possibilities.  If that's the case, will I have a completed journal (assuming it ever gets finished?!) of thousands of spreads?  That possibility is daunting - like Sisyphus, am I doomed to a lifetime of journalling?  How sad (☺️☺️☺️ ), if so.

Just a reminder that there is an upcoming rock painting class  on March 9, and I understand there may be a spot left in it.  If you're in town that day, it's the place to be!

Do let me know what you're up to in your artistic life in the comments below - I love hearing about the happenings in your week!

  1. It so appreciated to have a supportive spouse in your art career.
I enjoyed a wood burning lesson yesterday. Did you know you can use a wood burner on canvas and leather?

    1. I'm in total agreement, Eileen - John spends a crazy amount of time aiding and abetting - he's a peach.

Oh, I can hardly wait to see what you did with your wood burning time. I didn't know it worked on canvas and leather, but I do know it's fabulous for burning stencils!!!

  3. Oh Win! I'm full of guilt now! These are brilliant and reminded me of all the interesting elements I have collected from magazines to can pulls and they are still sat there waiting patiently to be added to some project. Thanks for the inspiration. Sending hugs, Angela xxx

    1. It's such a pull, isn't it Angela, to collect all these lovely creative elements. One never knows when that perfect time for use will arrive. ;-) Meanwhile, we inspire each other in so many ways with what we do use...artistic sharing is the bomb!

  5. Win, these are proof that there is beauty in everything, you are also amazing with words. I agree with Angela, so many elements we collect stay as a collection in a container, you on the other hand always find a way to showcase them!

    1. Thanks, Esme...journalling is a fabulous way to play, and there are so many. I'm SO looking forward to taking your class in a couple of weeks to add some more fun to the mix!

  6. You are amazing maybe I have said this before but you remind me of one of my favorite quotes..."I have done so much with so little for so long, I am now able to make anything out of nothing." I especially like your "I've gone crazy with pattern" I can so relate sometimes it just isn't finish without just one more pattern to make it pop.
Keep rocking with your rocks and paint a face on one for me I'm big on rocks with faces and hearts. Have fun!

    1. Oh, what a great quote that is, Deann, and thank you so much for saying so. It cracks me up that I hoard all these things in the hopes that I can eventually use them! And then throw them all together in pattern craziness to boot! :D

  7. Wine labels are fun for art, I agree! The journal art looks fabulous! How big is your journal? With 70 spreads left, it must be huge! I gave up on big ones myself because I have never been able to fully fill one. I only buy or make 20 pagers now, LOL. I admire your journal perseverance!

    1. Sal, the individual sheets are 8 1/2 x 11 and I've completed 40 spread of the 110 that are in it...I'll need to do at least two a week to complete the journal this year. I have two other journals in process as well - what the heck am I thinking? :D

  8. Isn't it such a blessing to have a husband who encourages your whims/obsessions?

Your journal must be huge! I'm working in 3 different ones at the moment (if you don't count the two prayer/Bible study journals as well...) and the ones I make have 48 spreads each.

    1. John is definitely a blessing, Tracy - he's beyond supportive!

Yes, the journal is huge (see above response to Sal), and of course that's not the only one I'm working on either! Sanity runs. :D

  9. Your posts make me giggle Win!
70 pages? Why that's nothing to accomplish in your art world! I've seen you do more in a weekend! heeheee
Such an awesome hunter /gather John is! My Riley is the same! heehee

    1. While doing 70 spreads in a weekend does sound a bit daunting, Jackie, I've no doubt this journal (packed to the gunnels, whatever they are) will eventually get done. I'll breathe a sign of relief and head directly into another, no doubt.

Smiling at the thought of your beloved Riley bringing you gifts - bless his happy heart! :D
