Artist madness...

strikes frequently in this house, giving rise to crazy projects like a pink horse, dryer sheet curtains, a crazy head, and more.  My most recent madness centred around some patio furniture...the cushions (red and turquoise) didn't match the chairs (dark brown and gold tones), the walls (peach) or the floors (rusty).  In fact nothing matched at all.

It was time to get out a  hand cut house wrap stencil and get to play.

It seemed like it would be relatively simple to pounce some paint through the stencil onto the cushions,

but by the time I did a couple of test pieces,

pinned and pounced a variety of colours,

on soft, squishy cushions six times over,

I was beyond crazed.  Did I say squishy?  They were slippery, elusive, recalcitrant, difficult and downright sneaky.

Four days, six cushions, seven colours, and a tortuously bent back later, the patio is looking pretty Boho.  I can only hope I will be able to find a tablecloth for the table that matches at least one of the colours.

And me?  I can be found muttering to myself in the back corner of the studio, multi-coloured sponges in hand, and a paint-thickened stencil standing on its own next to me as I cower from the paint tubes that seem to be on the attack.  I'm afraid of what might come next.

How about you?  What did your Muse get you up to this week?  I'd love to hear in the comments below!

  1. It's Madness! They call it Madness! I have found this to be both a blessing and a curse. I see something, look at everyday objects or things just arrive in my head and off I go again making a mess but when it works like your gorgeous cushions, it brilliant. Have a great crafty week, Angela xXx

    1. Isn't that the truth, Angela? You can try to ignore the prompt, but that's like trying not to breathe...best just to get on with it, and jump into the insanity! xo

    1. I was worried about you, Susi, when I didn't see a post for last week. I do hope the angina is much better now and we can see you back in fine form after the weekend. Big, healing hugs, my friend!

    1. Thanks, Sim - you're quite right that there are projects thrown into my head at a rate faster than I could possibly accomplish. And you can bet that we'll sit on these cushions - just as soon as the weather dries up a bit! ;-)

  5. Oh, they look lovely, Win. Worth all the slippery sneakiness, surely!
I'm working with fabric this week, too - making some clerical scarves for a leaving gift. Gelli-printing some fish and curving some ribbon into wheat stalks...

    1. Well, Tracy, I'm delighted they're done, most surely, slippery sneakiness or no. I'm intrigued by your scarves, and hope that you show them in a post when you're done!

  6. Your pillows are stunning, love the colour combination. Why hoping to find a matching tablecloth, paint one, even if it’s on the glass.

    1. Esme, you are just as bad as the Muse (and Val, who commented prior). And since I've not recently painted anything on glass, that idea is really appealing, darn it! :D

    1. I've been watching the ATCoin craze and thinking how much fun they look to be, so I can hardly wait to see what you've been doing...waiting for that post with bated breath.

I'm with you on the Boho thing, and were it not for John's more conservative tastes, the whole house would be a blaze of Boho colour...as it is, I can see that patio is going to be 'my' spot! ;-D

Rest? I think there are a couple of days at the end of the month that will qualify, and meanwhile, the paint is calling, calling, calling! xo

  10. I can't believe you made that with a home-made stencil - that pattern looks divine - very ethnic/tribal. Wonderful colour play - it certainly spiced up your veranda!

    1. I'm such a fan of hand-crafted house wrap stencils, and love using mine (and I've got HUGE stack) in everything I can. They hit the gel plate frequently, show up on direct prints and generally prance around the studio like prima donnas! Thanks for the kudos, Zsuzsa - it was a fun project!
