I'm doing a happy dance...

...because after a year and a half of  computer issues with a new computer, I've finally got it fixed (she says with bated breath).  Thank you Swift!  I can actually work on something while the backup is being done, photo editing is back to normal, and the keyboard can keep up with my fingers AND my brain!  Whoopee - it's been a great week altogether.

I've been playing in the studio, of course, while the computer was playing at Swift.  This is the second of the 'In Your Absence' series, a piece that commemorates my mother.  She was so good with embroidery, quilting, and all things hand-crafted, and this piece of stitchery as I practiced my own handiwork seemed to call her name.  It will be affixed to a wood panel; whether more will be added has yet to be determined.

The piece for my sister is being auditioned with some colourful holes, given that she was a vibrantly colourful person.

I'm working still, again, endlessly it seems, in the black and white journal as well.  And there are still some 20+ pages to go!

And I've finally gotten the courage to chop two pieces of fabric into four.  I'm going to cover some small canvasses and proceed from there.

Because we're at the very tail end of autumn, and (dare I say it?) the beginning of winter, I've taken some sayonara photos on our daily walks.

This time of year is so beautiful, and one almost holds the breath in the hope that winter is short, and spring will soon return.

It's time to tuck into a warm spot at home, grab a glass, and a few good books when studio time is over.

May your tuck-into-winter time be fruitful, safe, and happy.  Do catch me up on your doings in the comments, will you?

    1. Thanks, Sim - I'm always so grateful that we, as artists, live the creative life. It seems to make this whole crazy world much easier to live in right now!

  2. So glad you've sorted your computer problems, Win. It's so annoying when the technology doesn't behave itself. Loving that piece with stitching in honour of your mother. It reminds me that I haven't done any of that sort of work for so long.

Cutting up a loved piece of work can be hard, but those pieces will make wonderful canvases. Sometimes we see new possibilities when we take scissors to something.

Winter is definitely on its way where we are. There's a nip in the air in the mornings. I'm hoping with the loss of leaves we'll be able to hack back some of the wild growth and impose some order on the chaos that is our back garden, but I'm not holding my breath.

    1. Yup, I'm SO grateful that the computer issues are sorted - it's been a year and a half of living nightmare with it! The switch to a different repair shop has been the right one.

I'm smiling at the thought of you trying to impose order on your garden; our move to a condo complex has been a good one in that regard. John now smiles happily at those gardeners, and yesterday spent the day tackling a very small area to close things up for the winter.

Happy week, my friend, and may you get to some hand stitching before too long! Hugs, Win

  3. Great news, Win. Enjoy your new computer!
I think we have some things in common: My mother when great in embroidery when she was younger, but now she does not do it any more. And, of course, I love embroidery! As for the glass of wine and books, this is what I love to do during winter nights. I do not like winter either. In Greece it is the beginning of winter and I wish it passes quickly and the spring to come early. I also need to find courage to chop fabrics! Why? Because I love sewing too, so when I want to chop a fabric for my mixed media I am thinking that maybe I could make something different with the fabric! Hugs, my friend, and I am sure your sister will love her piece with the holes. Kisses.

    1. We most certainly have things in common, Mia, not the least of which is our backgrounds, love of mixed media, and trepidation at cutting a perfectly good piece of fabric. :D

Here's to a light winter, an early spring and cozy glasses of wine with a good book, my friend.

  4. Fabulous makes Win and I do love those colourful fabrics - I'm not sure I would have been able to cut into them - some things are just for stroking - but they will look great on canvases and you can stroke them there too! You make winter sound so cozy, I'm actually looking forward to it. I always find it amazing that the longest night is before Christmas and after Christmas the days are already getting longer - even though technically that's just the beginning of Winter! xx Happy Winter and thanks so much for your visit!

    1. While I can mentally talk myself into a cozy winter, I know that before long (and depending on the amount of snow we receive) I'll be whimpering for spring and summer...may they return with good speed! :D

  5. Hi Win, thanks for the lovely comment over at mine. Pleased you've got the computer sorted too. The fabric panels are going to look great when complete and it's lovely that it reminds you of your mum. The piece you're doing for your sister is brilliant and I'm sure she is going to love it. The black journal pages look very interesting and I can't wait to see what you do with the fabric pieces. Nice photos of your walk too. Take care my friend and happy creative week, Angela xxx

  9. Hi Win, I am so glad you got your computer problems solved, cross our fingers. And I think I'm in love...the picture you created with your Mother in mind it is extraordinary. The others are beautiful but the first one just sings to me...Bravo my dear.
Enjoy your wine and your last kiss of Autumn, ours is long gone and I'm wearing my woollies.
Let me tell you about my week it started out and ended the same way, me searching for a Thanksgiving turkey that weighed less then a small horse, 20 lbs is a LOT of bird for two, that's the smallest I could find.
As for the rest of the week it waszzzzzzzzzz... Hugs, take care of you.

    1. Thanks, Deann, for the kind comments and for stopping by to say hello.

As for autumn, it's definitely done and gone, and we too, are in our woolies. Brrrrr...even 0 Celsius is too cool - we have to walk really, really fast! ;-)

20 pounds of turkey is a lot of leftovers for two people - holy smokes, you'll be turkeying until 2023 on that amount! Good thing creativity is useful in the kitchen, right?

Taking care here, and hope you and yours are doing the same. Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy Thanksgiving, dear friend!
