about from town to town this past month, and have found little time to play in the studio. Isn't life just like that sometimes>
When all else fails, though, I revert to a Gelli plate session just to keep the juices flowing and retain my creative sanity. I knew that time would be short to do any leaf printing (how the heck did it get so close to winter so quickly?!!!), so I tore into it with great enthusiasm. John was about to compost the flower boxes, so I stole some dusty miller before it disappeared, added some fern, Japanese maple and other goodies, and had a blast.
There was a huge range as I worked back and forth from first to ghost prints (and even a few haunts).
And while I know it's fall, I couldn't help but put some sunny spring and summer prints through their paces as well.
Each print was so delicious, it was hard to stop.
Were it not for the fact that the family likes to be fed occasionally, I'd likely still be there.
Of course, being Canadian means that we were in the midst of Thanksgiving colour this past weekend, so that certainly added fuel to the colour schemes.
I can't get enough of green and orange lately, and there were quite a few of them in the pile!
I used all the brayer-cleaning sheets up before I finished, and the geometric lines through some of them pique my interest.
These will all make marvellous backgrounds or additions to journals,
and I suspect they'll grace a few cards and tags as well.
I'd LOVE it know what you do creatively when your time is short and your need is tall. Please tell me in the comments below so I can add your expertise to my arsenal; post a link if you like!
WOW - lots of interesting things here for you to play with all winter long - good show Win!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Val - the Gelli printing is definitely my go-to creative fun!
DeleteWow, these all look fantastic, Win! I have the same feelings about gelli printing - it's a great stand-by if you want to do something creative but either lack time or inspiration. It always gives me a quick boost of creative energy!
ReplyDeleteJust the best playtime, isn't it Zsuzsa? It's my go-to when time is short!
DeleteI love your prints - they turned out just beautiful all! Great to gelli print to let your creative juices flow. I often do simple watercolor exercises if my muse is on holiday.
ReplyDeleteI can turn them into something unexpected sometimes....
I found out that I don't want to make a mess if my muse is on holiday. So I think that my muse is the messy one of us two...lol.
Have a great strat of the weekend tomorrow Win Dinn!
You never cease to amaze me every time I come to see what you are up to.
oxo Susi
Good idea, Susi...like journalling and printing, watercolour exercises must be very relaxing. I makes me laugh that the Muse is the messy one - love it that you can blame the 'other'! :D
DeleteLove both the colours and composition.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah, although I'm not too sure that there is any planning in the composition - maybe that's why I like Gelli printing so much! ;-)
DeleteGorgeous Win, time I got my Gelli plates out again. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous samples. Happy crafting, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteAny time is a great time for Gelli printing, I think, Angela...enjoy!!! xo
DeleteBeautiful prints Winn...I usually just play with paints and inks and powders. Similar to Gelli prints but I don't have the Plate. Sometimes use a glass chopping board or just the table...card table.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Roz...I think it's hard to make a bad print with the Gelli plate and Golden Open Acrylics. I like the idea you have of using a glass plate with inks and powders and paint as well - brilliant!
DeleteThese are gorgeous, Win! I love the ghostly feel of them with the soft colours. We don't really get that big fall of leaves in the autumn so leaf printing can go on at any time of year.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't have much time, the Gelli-plate is great, but sometimes I experiment with new flavours of chocolate truffles. They don't take long - about 15 mins for each step and then leaving it for a while - but the anticipation of trying to see whether it works is always fun.
Thanks, Tracy...I'll admit to being a wee bit envious of your year-round leaf availability as leaf printing is a favourite of time. And if there's envy there, it's not near so much as of your chocolate truffle making...I'm positively green with that. It's something I've not attempted (I'd eat every bite, every time!)...yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
DeleteThey are so easy to do! I'd send you some, but with Australia Post and Canada Post involved, they'd probably have gone off before they reached you :)
DeleteSo close, and yet so far away! ;-)
DeleteFrom summer to fall in your prints Win! These are just lovely! Hope you find some more play time again soon!
ReplyDeletehugs and love,Jackie xx
Thanks, Jackie - they were so fun to do, and I'm looking forward to some more playtime - SOON!! xo
DeleteThese are all gorgeous Win! Aren't we lucky to have Autumn's so rich in color?!
ReplyDeleteWe are indeed, Laura - I love this time of year for the baroqueness alone!
DeleteOh Winn your leaf prints are fantastic so lovely. I love this time of year and using Autumn leaves in my artwork is such a treat. I adore the reds, oranges and golds they make me smile, Fall it's like coming home.
ReplyDeleteWhen time is short I do layered pictures because they don't require the cutting out and coloring that scene picture do. Layering is fun because you can include so many different elements that just add to the look of the picture...at least I thinks so.
I hope you are having a wonderful Autumn it seems to go by so fast I have to treasure every moment, every pumpkin and every leaf.
