...are
shadows, and they have fascinated me my whole life. Whether they're organic and cast on a fence,
|
Fence peekers & climbers |
or man-made and include a reflection,
|
Vodka? No, perhaps water. :D |
they hold an aura of mystery.
|
Lamp dance. |
I love them in colour,
|
Screen door in the studio |
or in the muted tones cast on concrete.
|
My mom and I on our last trip together |
In fact, I love them anyhow and anywhere.

What about you - are you a fan of shadows? Do you have a favourite? I'd love to hear about it, so let me know in your comments!
You must have taken these photos a while ago as we haven't had much sun lately with the smoke. Very cool Win!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right, Val - I keep a file of shadow and reflections photos, since I'm so crazy about them!
DeleteYou are really crazy about shadows - cool! Amazing photos Win Dinn!
ReplyDeleteHappy rest of the week for you!
oxo Susi
So true, Susi...the file of photos on my computer would testify to that! Happy weekend to you, my friend! xo
DeleteNothing like a picture with a good shadow they add such depth and interest, and your examples are humdingers. I like to use them to tell stories sometimes the shadows in my pictures reflect something hidden...they are so fun to play with.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, no play for me again this week, the part they shipped in to fix my computer was faulty so try, try again. Maybe next week... sigh. On the up side my house has never been cleaner...lol Have a great week.
Isn't that true, Deann...shadows can tell a story on their own. I recently saw a post where an artist is painting shadows on sidewalks and walls that have no bearing on the thing they're supposedly shadowing...most amusing!
DeleteOh my - you must be going crazy without your computer. Goodness knows, there's precious little creativity in cleaning house. ;-) Wishing you a speedy return to computer normality...big commiserating hugs, Win
Beautiful shadows! I especially like the one with the lampshade. It's like an art deco pattern shimmering in the light.
ReplyDeleteThat's a favourite of mine, too...just can't stop seeing these lovely patterns!
DeleteLove them Win, great starting points for art work. I especially like the shadows created over water though I guess these could be called reflections too. There are some famous film makers who have used shadows often on horror films but also Disney namely The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I especially like the shadow from your lamp and without seeing the object I'm not sure that it would be obvious what it was. Have a great week and thanks for the lovely comment, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right about the water one - these are all in a file named shadows, reflections and patterns. The Sorcerer's Apprentice has been a favourite of mine for a very long time, and those shadows really went to work in there, didn't they? Thanks for stopping by to comment, Angela!! xo
DeleteThere's a fascinating quality to shadows in that they change depending on your position and the time of day. There's always something new to see. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Tracy - I love watching them in all their forms! Hope all is well in the Land of Auz! xo
DeleteAlthough I may not be as enamoured of shadows as you are, they are always on my radar and when I see an exceptionally good one it takes my breath away.
ReplyDeleteShadows are fascinating, they portray mystery and humans are drawn to mystery. I have only featured shadows in a handful of paintings but recarion to them is always positive.
So true, Alice - it's the mystery that calls me every time (along with the inevitable patterns they create). And I've always loved the way you treat shadows in your paintings - like an integral part of the whole! xo
DeleteYou know what Win? My hubby notices every shadow, every creature, every thing to the point of distraction!!! Not me. I am just too much of a blower and goer... I have to tell myself... just stop and look and enjoy what he is showing me. So... I absolutely LOVE your photos of shadows. I never even really gave any thought to a shadow having color either. You are just so good for me. You always fill my brain with new things :) XXj.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how humans can be so much alike in some ways and so different in others? That's what makes it so interesting, I guess. It sounds like your hubby and I would get along just fine with our macro way of looking at things! Big hugs, xo
DeleteBeautiful photographs! Shadows are fascinating. I hope you are doing well, Shirleyxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shirley - they are fascinating, aren't they? Yes, all is well here so far as we pray for the end of fire season! Hope your part of the country is great, and your house is coming along! xo
ReplyDeleteYes, I love my shadow, his name is Chum and when I stop too fast..well, you know where his nose goes! lol
ReplyDeleteYour shadows here are fun and full of great patterns, thanks for sharing Win!
hugs,Jackie xx
Chum certainly is your shadow, Jackie, given that he's the world's best studio dog! I can well imagine you'd need to be careful with your stopping speed. :D xox
Deletetrue story, once or twice he has run right into my butt! LOL
Deletexo
:D I can see it in my mind, and the resultant chaos. :D Happy week, my Chummed friend! xo
