Well, wasn't that...

...a summer to remember?  The Creston valley was so hot in July that we were sitting in 36 degree weather in the shade as we enjoyed our family reunion.  In August, a visit from John's son arrived with showers and the perfect weather for that coastal man.  September is so confused that I'm wearing a winter coat as I walk to the gym in the morning, and I'm sporting my bikini (if I had one) in the afternoon when it hits 24 degrees.  The best part?  There was no fire season in our area this year, and very little smoke.  That's a welcome relief from the last five years or so.

I kept my promise to myself, and enjoyed family and friends this summer, with little artwork amassed to show for it.  I did manage to play with some black backgrounds on the following 6" x 6" papers.  All, of course, were done in an attempt to use the amassed scraps that seem to 'mountain up' in my studio.

And I did manage to stitch some signatures to pop into this mini travel journal (5" x 3" x 2").

I really like this style of journal taught to me by a good friend, Carol Geurts.  It has been sitting for months, though, waiting for that stitching to happen.  The procrastination bug hit me severely, and it's been so long now that I'll need to learn that fancy elastic knot-tying all over again.

I've got another one on the go and will try to get the stitching done this week, instead of waiting for months.  :D

I'm going to take some time now and pop over to your blogs to do a bit of catching up.  I've really missed you all this summer, and hope your summer was as refreshing as was mine.  💖

  1. Welcome to the web, my friend Win!
We've missed you too, it's been a long holiday no doubt. I'm glad everything went well with your family, with a bit of fresh air and no fires at all. It's good to stop surfing the web from time to time, isn't it ?
I'm happy to find all your kind comments when I open my blog, it's just too much fun! Thank you!!
I really like your collage of festive, colourful scraps of paper on a black background, your work is very inspiring. The second one, in any case, is already inspiring me, something tickles me :D. You're as talented as ever. And your books are always so cool. See you soon with some others treasures and wonders.
Big hugs are flying your way.

    1. Lovely to see you again here, and see some posts from you - I missed your wonderful colour and glorious imagery!

I agree about that second collage; there's something about that triggers a whole range of emotions in me as well, and I suspect there will be more of these coming along.

Hugs to you, too, Sim, and best wishes for a creative fall and winter! xo

  3. Hi loving the way you've used up the scraps, I'm good at collecting them and not using them. Pleased it's not just me that learns something and then forgets how it's done when I come to use the technique. I do try to right things down and sketch too which helps. Pleased you're back with us. Hugs Angela xXx

    1. I'm having a giggle about those techniques, Angela - I'm going to have to pull apart one of the elastics on the book to see if I can figure out how to put it back together again. 🤣 Sketches will be a big part of the process, I know. Sending you a plethora of return hugs...Win

  4. Missed you on your hiatus from blogging, Win, but it sounds as if you had a lovely time. Glad you found time for a little play in the studio. Of course I'm loving the drama of the bright on black pieces, especially the circles :)

Our winter has been very wet, and we've just had the coldest September morning for 100 years, with frost on the vines, so there may be a shortage of 2024 vintage.

    1. You and I both have a thing about circles, Tracy, and I loved playing with them on these pieces. From small to large they just seem to make me happy.

I'm sorry to hear about your cold snap, and will keep fingers crossed that your vintages are as plentiful as ever. It was a sadness to visit one of the local wineries this past week and see absolutely no ripened grapes on the vines. The unprecedented Feburary heat wave followed by a severe cold snap killed many vines entirely, and the orchards were hit severely as well. So hard to see.

Sending hugs, my far-flung friend...happy summer to you!
