...and truly, that's all I can say about my studio week.
Not only have I played with embroidery until I'm near blind, I've been burning, burning, burning, and while there's little smoke involved it's definitely been an inferno in here.
Free-hand stencil cutting is an easy thing to do, and a leather burner is just the tool for it. And doesn't that bright red handle look great with the grey?

While you're there, feel free to subscribe to my channel - I'm not only amused by house wrap and stencil burning, I get a kick out of seeing the number of subscribers increase. In case you're curious about these stencils and their uses, check out the Layers of Gelli video too.
I've got four more of these to burn to reach my limit - you'll know I'm done when you feel the earth crack and rumble against your feet from the shouts of
Yippee!

Yabba-Dabba-Do !!!!!!
I want to see what stencils you've created, whether they're burned, cut or still in the mental preparation stage. Let me know where I can find them in your comments below. In the meantime, have a silly, playful, and fun week.
Loving your stencils!! Haven't tried creating any myself yet.

DeleteHi Win, great technique. I have the kit but it's just another thing that I've not got round too.....who knows! it does look like fun! Happy crafting, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteSo many things to try, aren't there Angela? I'll be watching for when you do!!
DeleteI am sure that I would burn my fingers doing something like that - I will stick to my own games - lol. Very interesting Win - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've only a few scars to show for my efforts, and none of them deep! :D
DeleteYou wild and crazy woman is there no end to your madness...lol
ReplyDeleteYour stencils are amazing and you have given me dangerous ideas.
None whatsoever, Deann - the madness will continue apace until I drop with a thud into the ground for my permanent rest. And there's nothing I like BETTER than giving you dangerous ideas - you reciprocate so VERY well! xo
DeleteSilly as it seems... that's what I adore about you the most Win - you are chalk full of MADNESS when it comes to CREATIVITY. Your stencils are just FABULOUSLY FUN. Each one looks WONDERFUL. Burnin'HOT... you go girl!!! Xj.
ReplyDeleteSo many thanks, Joi - I sometimes do wonder about myself. But when you're on a roll, it's just so hard to get stopped, and your comments make it all worthwhile! ;-)

Thanks, Susi - they're really fun to do, and like most creative activities, they get me immediately into the zone! xo
DeleteHaahaahaaahaaa! Win, you make me laugh so!!
ReplyDeleteI just bet, you are a riot in your studio, with or without others! Probably have the tunes cranked, belting out the words and dancing all over as you work- at least this is the mental image I have of you! heehee
Hoppy Easter my dear friend!
Love & hugs,Jackie
It's true, Jackie, that I am easily amused, whether in a crowd or on my own. Life is just too short and waaaaaaay to funny to be otherwise, and I swear that artist have the most fun! Happy Easter, dear Jackie, with a ton of laughter thrown in for good measure! xo
DeleteYour self made stencils are amazing. At some point I would like to make my own... maybe... right now life is crazy busy :) Happy Easter xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shirley - I do hope things slow down enough for you that you can take some major creative time. Happy Easter right back to you...xo
DeleteVery interesting technique Win. I'm favoring the first one as I can see abstract floral shapes in it! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, Laura - I noticed the same thing, and suspect I need to do an intentional abstracted floral. Great minds, right?!!
DeleteWow, these are amazing, Win! No idea what 'house wrap' would be called here in Australia. What's it for, anyway? I usually use cardboard coated with sticky-backed plastic - you know, the stuff you use to cover schoolbooks. I hand cut them with very pointy scissors.
ReplyDeleteI think this product is something comparable to our house wrap, Tracy (http://www.thermakraft.com.au/product/coverup-house-wrap), used here as a barrier between walls and exterior. It's plastic (much like plastic envelopes, only thicker and with a threadish pattern). The thread adds another textural dimension if one uses that side down on a Gelli plate. Great fun, at any rate!
DeleteAh, something else to play with on the gelli-plate :) And thank you for researching that - I went and had a look at the site. I may be able to pick something similar up in the local hardware warehouse. But then of course I'd also need a tool to burn it...
DeleteYes you will, Tracy - the burners (they're designed here for leather, apparently) are relative inexpensive at $13 or so, and mine has been burning for a very long time. :D
