WineArt done...

...and done beautifully thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Andrea Revoy, who conceived the idea and encouraged local artists to join in the fun.

I love it that Alison dressed to match her head, titled The Grim Reaper Hits the Road.

One of my favourites was this one by Alison Masters,

I particularly enjoyed the write-up that came with it, which says:

'Just a little reminder that a Styrofoam head
can be anything, even 'in love'.  Painter Alison
Masters was going to wear these shoes tonight but
painted them instead. She is back at Masterworks
Studio painting her ball gown.'

Another big hit for me was Day of the Dead, by Andrea Revoy.

It amused me that of the thirteen heads, two of them had to do with death...are we artists that forward thinking?

This piece by Tamara Movold really struck me,

as did Bart Bjorkman's Deep Dweller, made of concrete.

I was delighted that the bidder who purchased my piece was a family member, so I can visit it occasionally.  I noticed the gentleman they outbid was not so pleased, however!  :D

All in all, it was an exceptional evening with wonderful wines, lovely decor, fabulous appetizers and terrific additional artwork by Carol Schloss and Eileen Hirota.  It was great fun to catch up with family and friends in such a setting.

Congratulations to you, Andrea Revoy, for your stellar job raising over $1200 for the Creston Valley Rotary ...well done!

Time in the studio...

is a bounce from one activity to another.  I've been working on book pages for my gratitude journal...

G for Gelli, using my yummy stash of Gelli prints for fodder
moving from one to the other.

B for books, possibly?

I've just unpacked 14 Gelli plates for the upcoming playshop at the college here in town,

and made a fascinator to wear at Wine Art this Friday night, where all those fabulous heads go up for auction.  It cracks me up that I have so little hair on my head it won't stay on - duct tape, perhaps?

With the yellow book in the Rainbow Series of altered books nearly completed and awaiting the title to go with the front and back quotes, it's one project that will soon be off the table.

Not So Mellow  An altered book in progress
There's a dried puff paint start to a new Gelli plate technique waiting for a moment of experimentation to happen,

and another gratitude page sits on the easel, patiently waiting its turn.  Can you tell this is A for alphabet, which precedes the B for books near the top of this post?  I know someone who would possibly cringe at the fact that I'm doing the pages out of order...true story!  :D  You know who you are!

I've actually managed to finish a couple of paintings, too.  This one is from my Fading From the Pattern Series, depicting animals that are nearing the point of no return on our planet.

Another completion is this whimsical piece utilizing some of my dried foliage stash.  I often think about what the inhabitants of the garden are doing when John's not out there watching. I suspect there's a whole lot more going on than we can imagine.

What's happening in your studio these days?

Are you getting a head?

Well, in Creston, the artists certainly are!

My previous post  let the head out of the bag regarding the focus for this year's art portion Wine Art which happens Friday, May 30, 2014.

Sixteen talented local artists will be doing (or have already done) altered heads that will be auctioned at this event to raise funds for charity (proceeds to the Rotary's coffers that support their local, regional and international good works).  I got a sneak peak yesterday at a couple of the heads.  This elegant bird in a cage by Maureen Cameron and her sister Audrey Herridge is definitely chirping at the top of its lungs.

I had to grin at this one by Joanne Ferry - the understated elegance of the tin can necklace is awesome, and the questions raised in my mind are legion!

Andrea Revoy, the mastermind of this whole production, has a work in progress that is truly amazing.  I can hardly wait to see this one completed!

Here's a sneak peak, partial-view-only, at Anne Fetterley's silkily awesome piece; it's purely mouth-watering already.

Heath and Victoria of Shprixieland Studios have really got something going in this work-in-progress.  Raise your hand if you HAVE to see this one complete!

If that doesn't whet your appetite to be at this event with all of your life savings, I've no idea what would. This show is going to knock us ALL out of our socks!  Tickets are available through any member of the Creston Valley Rotary Club.  If you like tasting wine, eating hors d'ouvres, hobnobbing with old friends and meeting new ones, along with having your socks removed, this is the event for you!

Be sure to check Andrea's post for more photos (yes, I stole these from her!) and details. You too can get a head!

What better combination?

It's time for WineArt again.

It's being held at the Creston & District Community Complex.tomorrow, March 30, 2012.  A fabulous evening hosted by the Creston Valley Rotary Club , it features some wonderful samplings by B. C. wineries, delectable appetizers, and local artwork.

The art display is being curated this year by Sandy Kunze on behalf of ArtWalk.  Since 10% of the proceeds from artwork sales goes to the ArtWalk coffers and 90% to the artists, it is a win-win situation .

You'll see some of my work there
Evoking Water

Humanity, Hanging

Gifts from Gaia

Quest for Light
Some of the other participating artists include Laura Leeder, Carol Schloss, Linda Bullock with her gorgeous silk and woold scarves, Andy & Elaine Alfoldy, Leah Wilson, James & Nora McDowell, Pridham Studio, Howlin' Dan and Lori Wikdahl.

I'll be taking some photos for the ArtWalk blog, and look forward to seeing you there - you will not be disappointed.
