It's been a busy week...

...here, and not all in the studio.  From Christmas baking and shipping,  to sending cards out and wrapping my head around a technique unused for some time, I'm been in a wee bit of a tizzy!  This artist tissue technique is fun, totally uncontrollable (like me, right?!), and just meant for abstract play.

And in case you thought I'd missed the video this week, you'd be very nearly right, given that I accidentally deleted it from the camera, and had to do a repeat.  There's just something about technology and me that are at odds.  In any event, I managed to do another, so from start to finish, here's a video about playing with artist archival tissue paper and acrylic washes.

This last week was also about calligraphy - some friends and I took a class on Thursday last at the college, and yesterday was a practice day. . . there's a looooooooooong way to go, I'd say!

And while Eileen was here yesterday to work on this (she's a pro, given her earlier training), I neglected to get a single photo.  Baaaaad Win!  We were having too much fun, I'd say.

Tell me about your week - what have you been up to?  Creating?  Baking?  Wrapping?  Making?  Let me know in the comments!

  1. Nice work Win. I took a calligraphy course many years ago but never did much with it. I still have the alphabet my calligrapher grandfather made me when I was 11 and do use it sometime to make Christmas gift tags but that is about it.

    1. I have huge appreciation for anyone who has mastered this art, Val...it's definitely a challenge, and will take a lot of time to learn!

    1. Thanks, Angela - it was a blast (twice :D)...I love techniques where one has no control over the results...boom!

  3. You may have no control over the results, Win, but you've made a fantastic landscape. I feel like I could just walk up the path and into the woods of the creation in the video.
I love looking at calligraphy but have yet to master it. Failure to put in the time, I'm afraid. As for my time this last week - lots of baking and preparing for Christmas church services. Such a busy time of year.

    1. Many thanks, Tracy...that was a fun one to do, and I really enjoy those techniques that make me relinquish any sense of control! :D And yes, this is a crazy busy time of the year, and isn't that just a wonder?! Magic everywhere...

  4. Wonderful tissue art Win ! I tried to do calligraphy a few years ago .. it is amazing but much practice is used and I am a little lazy.
But I learned to warm up with writing and this helps a lot when it comes to do handlettering on my journal pages.

Have a great time my friend!
I am busy with all kinds of things for christmas - but it's a nice time and makes one happy.....
    Hugs, Susi

  5. Thanks, Susi - and I agree with the practice requirement for calligraphy...somehow I doubt it will be a quick learn in any way. In the meantime, we get to celebrate Christmas, and that's a huge bonus!! xo

  6. How annoying that the first video got deleted and so good of you to find the will to remake it! I remember once I lost a blog post and I never bothered to write it again. That looks like an awesome technique and defo one for me to try!

    1. So true, Zsuzsa, but it's such a fun technique that I couldn't let it go. Thank goodness the second one was a go, 'cause I doubt I would have done it again! You'll enjoy it when you get to it, I'm sure!

  7. Your beautiful backgrounds this week spoke to me right away of fire and woodlands, not necessarily a good combination in the real life however they are something really wonderful in my art world.
I have always loved Calligraphy but I'm left handed drag my palm through what I have written and can't see where I have been so I have sorry results...lol Rock on!
Keep your eyes out for your lovely backgrounds on my blog this week, they are the trees in "Winter Light" and your artwork from last week is the subtle pattern in the night Sky in "I Wonder". Thank you for your generosity sharing your art with me, they are so beautiful and special a lovely voice in the choir of my artwork. Hugs, Deann
