I'm fascinated right now...

...by patterns, and they're absolutely everywhere.

Whether on the net,

in photos,

in nature,

in my surroundings,

and in my own work

one can hardly escape them.

I'm drawn right now to Art Deco patterns, and there are a host of them to be found with a Google search of 'Art Deco Images'.  These have my mouth watering with their beauty and their seeming simplicity.

This lacquered wood screen by Jean Dunand has my mind whirling with possibilities.

Are you drawn to patterns as well?  Where do you see them?  I'd love to see your comments below.

    1. I had to smile at the relatively quiet photos too, Val, but pattern won out on this for sure!

    1. Thanks, Joi; patterns are just so fascinating to me. I've been using them for years in mandala design, and now they seem to be cropping up everywhere I look! xo

  7. I love it when patterns are combined with distressed textures. Basic Grey used to be so good at that, but they don't make papers any more! I still find their old papers irresistible!

    1. Many thanks, Jackie, and yes, we're 'enjoying' a snowy winter, quite uncommon in these parts. (I could have sworn that's why we left Alberta! :D ) Big hugs right back at you, my friend! xo

  9. Like you I am fascinated with art deco and even more so with art nouveau. Art deco patterns appear simpler but I think that their perfect repetitiveness would be difficult to emulate.
Since I can see no way to include it here, I'll have to email you something that has me swooning. It would be perfect to use the golden gesso in this way - if only I had the energy!

    1. I agree with the patterning in Art Deco - likely hard to emulate without a computer, methinks. That photo you emailed is stunning! Do you know the name/artist? Yes, Golden Gesso would be a great thing to use; may it percolate in your mind until you have the energy to have it percolate through your hands! xo

  10. My favorite patterns I seem to find in nature, Win! And sometimes quite accidentally. For instance, yesterday I was taking photos of wild burros. As some were at quite a distance, I used the 10x magnification. All of a sudden, one of the braver borrow came right uou to the window of our truck and I begin snapping photos as quickly as I could. When I took a look at the close-up photos, I realized the magnification was still on and all I had were pictures of the burro's coat. While not what I wanted, I was able to see beautiful patterns of color in the magnification of said coat! Obviously, I love this post.

  11. Wow, wasn't that a fabulous accident? You have some lovely colour patterns now, and first-hand knowledge of the Universe working in your favour!
