I know I'm 'supposed to be'...

...doing a ton of other things, but I'm having trouble getting out of the studio.  For one thing, it's really comfortable downstairs, given the high temperatures we're experiencing, and for another, it's so much fun to play.

Can you tell the heat is affecting my artwork?  Celebrate - a breath, a flash - combustive, sliding heat!

Celebrate the Heat
The piece started out with a third generation gel print, that I streaked, stencilled and stamped.  Once I added a thoroughly used mask and a candle, it was a done deed.

I've done a few pieces over the years entitled Love Letter to Gaia, and this became another one.

Love Letter to Gaia IV
This is one of my favourite quotes, and I was glad to have an opportunity to use it.

It started with a ghost gel print, and by the time it was knocked back with stencils, stamps and more stencils, it was (somewhat) subdued, although not to many people perhaps.  😃

I did manage to finish a darker, cooler piece (was that a 10 pm time slot?), so at least the colour palette is not totally hot, hot, HOT!

I hope you've had every opportunity this week to get your creativity on and that your locale is somewhat more moderate than what we're experiencing.  I must say, though, that having the studio downstairs means I'm quite happy to be a Basement Dweller!

  1. Your HOT page is just STUNNING Win Dinn - so atmospheric! And the vibrancy of the LOVE LETTER TO GAIA is terrific! I love the background of the pinkish/orange piece and the lovely quote you used! And the cooler blue page with the Chagall? is very expressive and a fantastic quote to it as well!
I hope you get a bit fresher temperatures soon!
This is such a heatwave in many areas - even in Sweden that is such a northern cold land in Europa they suffer and in Germany and even Great Britain! We in Austria are supposed to get this much heat in August. But I am nearly always lucky with heat here. And we mostly have cool nights here, ebven when it gets extremly hot. And our house has very thick walls and it is always comfortable here inside. In summer they keep out the heat and in winter they keep the warmth so well!

Keep cool and play play play in your downstairs studio! I love to see your work!
    Hugs, Susi

    1. You're right that the cooler piece includes a self-portrait by Chagall - it seems quite fitting for these times as I cast my eye south into the US.

We're hoping for a cool down, but there seems to be none predicted for the next two weeks (I think they're afraid to predict anything further than that! :D )

We're watching the heat wave as it stops and stays in Europe, as well - most unusual weather - your thick walls will be an added bonus right now, as is our basement!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend - love seeing you here! xo

    1. Thanks, Val, and I can understand about the pressing need to do other things - can't quite figure out how you get everything that you do, done!

  3. Hi Win, such fabulous printed backgrounds with gorgeous added detail. It's hot here too which for the UK is unusual in as far as it has not rained for about five weeks where we live and the poor dogs have definitely had enough of it. Stay cool my friend, Angela xXx

    1. Thanks, Angela...I'm so addicted to gel printing, and love starting with a page that's already coloured to the max...the push/pull of play then is truly a blast! While we're quite as hot as the UK, and then some - daily temperatures are around 33-35 C (91-95 F) - it has been going on for less than five weeks, so we can count our blessings! :D

Hang in there in a couple of months it will be winter and we can gripe about how cold we are. Love ya have a great weekend stay cool.

    1. Oh, Deann - Kalispel is lovely and the temperatures not nearly so high as this pocket of hot spot Creston is. Best thing? It's much closer to us and we might get together to play occasionally!!!!! Move, lady, move! And I refuse to gripe about the heat when I know that winter is (in my head, at least) rearing its ugly head. I'll bask on the back covered deck with a glass of iced tea, and play in the studio! xo

    1. Thanks, Sal, and yes I just love working with mixed media. Coming from a traditional background of fine art, it's a breath of fresh air!

  6. Who needs 'supposed'?! There are always plenty of things we feel we should be doing, but, quite honestly, the majority of them won't hurt if they wait. The dust will still be there tomorrow, and it won't look any worse than it does today, so go play :)

    1. I so agree, Tracy; after noticing throughout my life that the house doesn't stay clean, there are always meals to be made and errands to be run, I'm seldom worried about 'supposed to dos'. Play on, Macduff! :D

  7. I don't blame you for wanting to stay in your studio, Win - especially if it's cooler there! Super creations - you're right the first one is so full of heat and energy! And I really like that lacy gelli print as well! Happy play!

  9. Dear Basement Dweller,
You LOVE the heat and you know it. You're not fooling me, not for a minute!
Stencils, stamps and more stencils made the piece somewhat more subdued?
    Sure,I'm laughing in flowers! xox
