Colour just soothes...

...the soul, doesn't it?  I'm so happy to be back in the studio and playing with colour again.  I finished another journal spread (started a couple of weeks ago), and I am loving the quieter tones of blues, purples and magenta.

You can see that the segments of paper have rearranged themselves significantly from the original layout, some bits have disappeared entirely, and there is a theme of letting go.  It must be all that purging that has taken place, don't you think?

And just in case you think I've gone all serious on you, I thought I'd better show you another piece I finished this week.

Started with a Gelli print,

it took the addition of a 'wall', a tree frog and some flutterbies to turn this into a reminder

that I'd probably better have some lunch.

All items were 'glued' with gel medium and an iron in a method demoed thoroughly on YouTube by  Laura Lein Svencner.  The method has many advantages over the traditional gluing method using acrylic liquid medium, not the least of which is a lovely flat seal.

Do catch me up on your activities in the comment section below - I'd love to hear what you're doing!

  1. I love that palette, Win. It has definitely been a time of letting go for you, and will continue to be until the move is completed. It's a strange place of liminality, isn't it?

I've painted my studio white now and it feels more mine. Once I get some art on the walls it will be so much better. For now, though, on with the coloured pencils and neocolors that make up my stash for the moment.

  2. Quite correct, Tracy, and the feeling is one of both the joy of a new adventure and reluctance to let go of the old one. What strange creatures we are!

I'm glad that your studio is now starting to feel like home; I'm excited for that slow boat from Australia to arrive so you can make the full transition to the UK - you must be on pins and needles!

  4. That palette is gorgeous and the frog collage is so vibrant and positive that I would take this one for my favourite today!
I learned from Laura a few years ago about her method on YT and I bought an extra bottle of polymer medium then, but never used it... shame on me. But I do much more ironing of paper pieces since then. She has such a wonderful collage style and I enjoyed to make an abstract landscape with her!
Enjoy your new studio Win Dinn!

    1. Thanks, Sal - and glad you enjoyed the link. I like the iron technique for giving that fabulous seal (as long as I remember to be liberal with my use of medium, that is!).
