I know, I know...

...I'm supposed to be purging, but when there's white paper involved, look what can happen!

Acrylic ink on printer paper

Here's the story:  I've been avoiding,  postponing, deferring, delaying, evading, circumventing, skirting, sidestepping, or ducking the purge.   I've been procrastinating for the last ten days years.  Who really, truly wants to do a deep clean in the studio?!

A deep clean means the task of splitting old-style continuous form paper (for use with dot-matrix printers) into useable pieces has been neglected and then rescheduled at least 37 times.  It was the last bit of paper in my large white paper container, and it's been screaming at me for such a long time that I am near-deafened.  At least that's what I tell John when he complains that I'm not listening.

So I started ripping

and tearing

until all the side strips were removed, when I could then start splitting, page by page, by flippin' page.

Now I have a fabulous pile of printer paper or paper for printing (are you thinking what I'm thinking?  Painted paper and Gelli prints are SO fun!).

And of course, all those side strips have to turn into something.  Perhaps they'll be part of another 'Expat' folded book; they certainly fit the strangeness factor.

There were a few spoiled pages from the process, so I crumped them thoroughly and then sprayed with water.  Liberally covering them with painty stuff was a blast.

Want a closer look at some of the other results?

More India ink topped with acrylic ink...don't you think this looks like a crime scene?
Maybe I've been reading too many murder mysteries over the holidays!
Now I know I'm not the only one who procrastinates, and I'm betting you can add to the list of words for it in the second paragraph.  What's your favourite?  Lollygagging, perhaps?  Let me know in the comments - I NEED more words for this pastime because I'm becoming first-rate at it, and need to write the book (when I have the inclination).

  2. Sounds like you just can't keep your focus but have to stop and play but you know what they say - all work and no play... etc. Lots of play there and super fun!

  3. Bravo for you oh procrastinating one for not only have you freed a whole stack of paper & trim you have also created five gorgeous backgrounds which I will not delay a minute in boldly kifing right off your very blog.
And yes I am a fellow duty diddler, I excel in dawdling, stalling, shilly - shalling, dragging my feet and playing for time...I used to be even better in High School but alas we all have to grown up and face reality sometime. Now it's a matter of art housework, art housework, art or housework and honestly I think we both know whose going to win that choice....because if there is one thing I have learned in life it is that inspiration is fleeting, but dust will wait for you. Forever.

    1. Fun to have all those memories of continuous forms, right? Thank goodness they are no longer required in my life, except for colouring/painting/playing!

  5. Sounds to me like you're fudgelling, Win. To fudgel - to make a shew of doing somewhat to no purpose (from The Horologicon: a day's jaunt through the lost words of the English language by Mark Forsyth). But what great results.
I have to admit that I gelli-printed a whole ream of A5 paper and turned it into notebooks so that I didn't have to feel that it needed throwing out. I sold over half of them as well, so that helped :)

  6. Gosh that ink on the vellum looks like ice. Were you inspired by the weather we've been having?

    1. You're right about the ice-like look, Eileen - quite different than on the printer paper, isn't it? I just loved watching the way India ink reacted to the water spritzed on the papers...I could have done dozens of them.

  7. Wonderful colour play - and aren't those monochrome prints marvelous as well! Those side strips will make great collage pieces to add texture, or could be used as stamps or stencils, and I'm sure your creative mind will find lots of other uses as well. Oooh, How about a weeping willow tree? The possibilities are endless!
