I showed you some snippets...

...last week, and thought you might like to see a wider view of some of them.

This itty bitty eggy thing

actually looks like this in real life, and could change again.

The alcohol ink on black gesso

looks a fair bit different when looking at the whole.

This fragment of texture on canvas

is a small part of a painting in progress that is 8" x 24".  I like the fragment MUCH better, so let's hope that when it's completed I'll like it all!

I've done some work on this piece since last week

and now it looks quite different.  I can see the doodling influence, as well as a look of embroidery on this. And just think - I've got four more pieces in this style to play with!

I'm off to the interior of British Columbia this next week for a design/staging commission, so I'll be fire-dodging and tap dancing my way to next Thursday's post.  In the meantime, what are you up to? I'd love to hear in the comments below!

  1. Seeing both the parts and the whole of each of them is very interesting. Take care on your trip into the heart of fire country.

    1. Thanks, Val - hoping the conflagrations will keep their distance, so I'm thinking of every warding-off spell I know. :D

    1. Thanks, Susi - and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the trip to the interior will go well. There are dozens of fires across the province, and it's a crap shoot right now when it comes to travel. Photos? Perhaps, if it's not too warm to shoot. :D

  3. Oh yes so cool, especially the egg a very interesting collection of textures. I think I am going to dub you the texture master you come up with some really amazing stuff.
Next week is going to be a big Winn Dinn week in my pictures so watch carefully and see if you can pick them out.
Have a great week watching stars.

    1. Textures, yes, yummmmmm. I'll have my eyes peeled (such a mental visual, right?) for those backgrounds in your work, Deann! And those peeled eyes will definitely be used for stargazing! ;-)

    1. It is rather like a puzzle, isn't it Zsuzsa, and that's a favourite (Christmas) activity in our house. When we do work on puzzles, I'm often wonder-struck at the beauty of individual pieces, and in awe of how they make up the whole. It's a colourful world!

    1. Thanks, Shirley - lovely that you stopped by for a peek. I hope that your temporary home is comfortable while you wait to move into your lovely new one - and back into your own studio. We're well here, albeit very smoky! British Columbia feels like an inferno nearly everywhere right now, but we are not yet on evac alert, so that's a good thing. xo

  7. Loved the fragments last week, but I think I like the full alcohol ink on black gesso even more, Win. It makes me think of both cobwebs and smashed mirrors - a bit Lady of Shalott-like. Enjoy your fire-dodging, whatever that looks like :)

    1. Thanks, Tracy - it's rather fun to see snippets and fullits! :D The fires are covering the province right now, so we'll see how the next week goes - a run to the interior may be that, literally!

    2. Of course, it's your hot season. We know what it's like to wake up and smell the fire in the hills. I hope yours are contained and tamed swiftly.

    1. Thanks, Jackie - this is all very experimental, but I'm sure having fun with it! I don't have another show planned right now, and that's a relief to be honest. Maybe I'll let that stand for a while. :D xo

    1. It's fun to see how it works, isn't it Joi? There are many pieces where I'd be delighted to use only a fragment. :D Happy day to you my friend! xo
