It's tiny...

...but lovely, our tree.  And with my fascination for shadows, I can't help but think how it's a metaphor for the world in which we live.  It is glorious, it sparkles, it dances with joy, and yet there is a shadow behind it all.

This Christmas, the shadows are hatred, bigotry, wars and terrorism, just to name a few.

With all our consumerism and penchant for believing things matter more than life, perhaps it's time to throw some light on the shadows.

This Christmas, and in 2016, I'll be spending a little more time reflecting on ways in which I might do so, just a little, from where I am right now.

I hope you'll do the same.  In the meantime, I'm wishing you and yours the best of the season as you experience the serenity of time with your family and friends.  Merry Christmas.

  5. A very philosophical post, Win! I was going to write an equally philosophical comment, but I got tangled in my own thoughts. This is my third attempt! There's no easy solution. We're hard wired to regard people and cultures that are different from us as the enemy because we feel they threaten and challenge our own values. Tolerance and acceptance of differences are key here. But it only works if all sides subscribe to it. Can we, as the human race, ever achieve that?

    1. I am always hopeful, Zsuzsa, that it is not only possible, but inevitable to live a world of love. Why else are we here, but to learn that? May 2016 be the year! xo

  6. Loved reading your post. Much of the problems in the world are difficult to change so I am working on it in my own small way by trying to make those around me as happy as I can in the hope they will spread that love further. It may be hard and it will take time but if all of us make that little effort it has to make a difference. Take care, Angela, Maisie and Stan xXx

  14. Deep post. I am fascinated with duality, it's very visible outside of us but also very much live inside of us as well. The only cure for the big (world) picture is to be aware of the little one. That's us. Since changing anything or anyone else is beyond our capacity our work is to be sure that our individual thoughts and actions are only for the good.
